Glogg, glogg, glow. PocketRadio Christmas 2011
Each year the Christmas season seems to surprise me with the gift of a song that locks into my head and stays there. Often a song or a version I had never heard. Last year it was John Rutter’s Shepard’s Pipe Carol, which we are presenting here as (#6). This year it’s “We Wish You The Merriest” – Walther Lutheran HS A Cappella Choir (#8). Something about this rendition recalls a High School event I never attended but now wish I had. Maybe it never happened, but did in my imagination. It is so wistful and at the same time so communal. Perfect.
The bulk of the remainder of the show is made from discs plucked from the dollar bin at Amoeba. The variety is vast. If you ever want to create a great vinyl holiday, take $20 and walk out a wise man/woman.
